The current version of INN is 2.2, released January 1999, which you can obtain directly from the Internet Software Consortium

The INN 2.x series has a completely redesigned (and simplified!) installation and configuration process. See

Installing and Upgrading to INN 1.7.2
INN 1.7.2 is based heavily on 1.5.1corr, a correction release by Mib Software. Most of the advice, documentation, instructions for 1.5.1 are accurate for 1.7.2 also. As time permits, all references to 1.5.1 will be replaced with 1.7.

If upgrading from a previous version of INN

Save yourself time and trouble by re-using your config.data from INN 1.5.1. It is compatible.
Most of the sample-configs in 1.7.2 are corrupt. If you are not already running 1.5.1, see replacement sample-configs at: http://www.mibsoftware.com/userkt/inn/sample-configs/
There are defects reported since INN 1.7.2 was released. See the INN Defects by release pages
at: http://www.mibsoftware.com/userkt/inn/patches/
the INN 1.5.1 README which has important notes and installation instructions specific to the latest version. It also includes a history of all the changes to get to the latest version.
6.4 INN FAQ What's the best way to upgrade to a new version of INN?
Pay special attention to parsecontrol. Make sure it is the latest version, which fixes a security hole!
Depending on how you have set up your INN system, parsecontrol is not automatically replaced with the corrected version (which is in inn-1.7.2/samples/) See INN Patches: Security for other details.
